My name is Kate Vannier and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and Art Therapist. From an early age I undoubtedly knew I was going to be in the helping profession. I received my undergraduate degree from Bowling Green State University with a bachelors in Fine Art. I achieved my masters degree in mental health counseling from Wayne State University in Detroit, MI. I began my career working as a counselor in inpatient psychiatric care and later went on to work with children and populations with traumatic brain injuries (TBIs). My experience working with traumatic brain injury inspired me to expand my passion in art therapy and I spent several years working with children and this modality. Although I have extensive education and experience with TBIs and behavioral health, I have comprehensive knowledge working with a variety of populations. With over a decade of service in the mental health field I am accomplished in working with individuals struggling with anxiety, depression and other mood disorders, behavioral issues, trauma, marital issues, family struggles, parenting hardships, and addiction.
I strive to create a warm and trusting environment to empower my clients and facilitate positive change and growth. My goals are to help clients recognize strengths, establish new skills, implement actual change, and make concrete progress toward resolutions. My therapeutic approach is multidisciplinary and eclectic to individual needs, while simultaneously focusing on thoughts and feelings of my clients through emotion-focused and person-centered therapy. My specialization in art therapy is a process utilizing creative expression to explore emotions and thoughts, manage stress, resolve conflicts, and increase self-awareness. I truly believe in the therapeutic process and will be compassionate and dedicated in helping you reach your full potential.
