I have always been drawn to the field of psychology and the chance to help others. Understanding the science behind why we do the things we do, using evidence-based approaches to making sustainable changes, and forming the human connection needed by all, is a beautiful, and powerful combination. I completed my undergraduate degree at the University of Michigan-Dearborn with honors in psychology. I then went on to receive my master’s degree in counseling psychology, as well as my Ph.D. in educational psychology —with an emphasis in school and community psychology— from Wayne State University. I completed my doctoral-level internship at a community mental health center in Detroit where I worked with, and provided assessments for, individuals suffering from severe mental illness and trauma. After moving to the west side of the state, I worked in a private practice setting primarily working with individuals dealing with relational issues (couples counseling), depression, anxiety, ADHD, bipolar, and trauma. More recently I have completed training for specialization in perinatal mood disorders through Postpartum Support International and feel very passionate about helping individuals navigate this unique, and common, experience. Hess Psychological Services was founded during COVID when I witnessed an explosion of individuals needing help dealing with the stressors of life. We have since expanded and have a brick-and-mortar location in Comstock Park, Michigan. Our team of therapists is growing and I am honored to work alongside other clinicians with a similar passion for helping others.
I believe that every individual is beautifully unique, and therefore responds differently to every situation. Understanding your experience and perspective is imperative to quality clinical work. I work with your individual strengths using an eclectic approach to therapy. I use evidence-based treatments in a unique and collaborative way that is specific and tailored to your needs and desires. I use a combination of emotion-focused therapy, motivational interviewing, mindfulness, cognitive-behavioral therapy, trauma-informed cognitive behavioral therapy, interpersonal therapy, and family systems theory to engage you, the client, in the most beneficial therapeutic experience possible. I believe in forming genuine connections with each individual I work with, which fosters safety, trust, and hope. I also provide assessments of various kinds, including ADHD assessments, DBQs, and screeners for mood disorders.
